EDWARD BIRD Obituary

RUMSEY EDWARD BIRD

Dec. 16, 1941 - Jan. 18, 2008

Ed Bird passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous fight with different illnesses on January 18, 2008. A long-time resident of Meeker, Colorado, originally from Oroville, Calif, where he raised his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, panning for gold, golfing and sitting around with his family telling stories from the past as well as his tales of "Big Foot".

During the 80's Ed began a fundraiser called "Operation Orange" which rose a quarter of million dollars for the National Leukemia Foundation. This was a huge event and he worked hand in hand with the V.P. of Sunkist, Joe Stubbs. Whatever Ed put his hands to, he did so with passion and determination.

Ed is survived by his wife Rita of 33 years; his brothers Larry (Linda) Bird; sons Duane (Kathy) Bird and Joe (Chris) Bird, daughters Darcy (Levi) Roach and RaeChelle Anderson; 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, as they referred to him as their "PaPa".

His mother Ovil Bird, father Lois Bird, sister Virginia Lewis and grandsons, James Duane Bird and Matthew Roach, preceded Ed in death.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 2nd at 2 p.m. at New Life Church, 965 Grand Ave. in Oroville.

We love and miss you very much. Enjoy your eternal life with the Lord, Dad. Love all your family.

Ed, I can still hear and see the smile on your face whenever you were telling jokes. How you loved to tell 'em. I could never understand how you used to remember them one right after the other. Can still see that smile on your face during these story times. One could tell that you thoroughly enjoyed life. Sorry it was just so darn hard on you. You being gone satisfies us that you're finally at peace and no longer in pain. We all will miss you. We enjoyed having you in the Richard family for 33 years.

"I better hear them feet hitting the floor" Those words used to send chills down my spine when I would be lounging in bed not wanting to get up. Now they make me smile. I love you dad
