Erin Dougherty Obituary

ERIN DOUGHERTY It was a very sad day to learn that a loving mother & friend, Erin Dougherty, has passed away on August 11, 2022. She lost her battle with cancer. Erin was born July 16, 1963. She was adopted by John H. and Betty Dougherty (now Cox). She grew up here in Chico with her older brother Johnny, mom and dad, Betty and John. Growing up she was active. She started water skiing when she was about 7 years old and getting so good that she could ski on one leg. She also played tennis and soccer. After graduating PV in 1981 she went to Sacramento for business, but realized that wasn't her passion. Coming back to Chico where she became one of the top carpet cleaners for COIT for a few years. After COIT she went to school to become a teacher only to discover on her path that teaching wasn't what called to her. Yes, she could connect with students and that showed in her internship at the daycare center that her daughter attended. What truly called to her was the study of maps. This passion she received from her grandmother, Muriel (Mimi). It was Mimi who taught her to read a map and to pay attention to mile markers at a young age. After graduating from Chico State with a Bachelor's Degree in Geography, in 1996, Erin worked for the City of Biggs where she was the City Planner/Code Enforcement Officer for about 14 years. She also helped her daughter with her school work, bussed her to games. When she wasn't at work she also helped organize a neighborhood watch committee for the East of Eaton apartment complex. In between school and work Erin enjoyed going to her daughter Patty's games. She went to every game cheering her and the team on. She also volunteered to keep score and occasionally helped create the team's phone call list. Erin also enjoyed going camping at Lake Almanor where she could also enjoy the Pine Shack coffee shake. She also loved to watch the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Rams. There was hardly a game where she wasn't either cheering her team on or swearing at them to get their act together. Erin's battle with cancer came to a peaceful end. She is survived by her daughter Patty and her mother Betty Cox. Erin is joined by her grandmother Mimi, her brother Johnny, her father John and her grandfather Gus. She will be missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace. There is a grave side service for Erin Monday, September 26th at 10 a.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park.

I have such fond memories of Erin and Patty when I was married to John Doughterty. Erin quickly became part of my own brook of children and it was a day of joy when Patty entered my life through Erin. May Erin rest in peace for she brought life and a sense of joy to those who knew her. MY personal condolences to her daughter who will surely miss Erin's presence, her companionship and love.
