James Neuhart Obituary

JAMES "SCOTT" NEUHART 5/26/1944-6/13/2014 Scott was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of James Leonard and Olive Louise Neuhart. He attended schools in Arcata and Orland, California. Scott married Darlene (Ferry) in 1963 and they have two sons, James Scott Neuhart, Jr. and John Marc Neuhart. They lived in Chico, Orland, and Forest Ranch. In 2009, they moved back to Chico where both sons reside. Scott was a mechanic most of his life; in 1983, he became the owner/operator of Scott's Auto Service in Forest Ranch, where you might have seen him with his friends and family gathering on the "log." Scott also enjoyed careers in Auto Parts Stores and driving a logging truck. In his younger years he enjoyed drag racing (winning several trophies), riding motorcycles, camping, and working on cars, especially his '55 Chevy. Most friends will remember his buddy "Oly." Scott instilled the ethic of hard work in his sons and was very proud of the men they have become. His favorite thing was hanging out with them doing their projects while reminding them to keep their heads out of their butt. G-pa and his grandson Luke enjoyed bantering with each other and cartoons. Scott was hard working, unpretentious, and honest; he spoke his mind and had a sharp, quick-wit comeback in every conversation. He is survived by his wife Darlene; sons Jim (Jamie), John (Stephanie); grandson Luke; two step-granddaughters, Maggie and Kayla; a favorite cousin, Romaine Hardcastle of Oregon; and sister Nancy Saners. His wife and sons want to thank all of his friends and family for the visits, calls and cards, they meant so much to him. We also would like to thank Enloe Hospice for their care in his final weeks. A tribute to Scott will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Chico Masonic Family Center, 1110 W. East Ave., Chico from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Food provided and casual dress is preferred for all family and friends who wish to attend. So sorry for your loss. I remember Scott from his dad's station in Orland and we used to stop at the station in Forest Ranch every time we went through just to say hi.

Condolences to Darlene and family. Scott and Darlene are fellow classmates of our OHS Class of 1962. My favorite memory was the log bench of Scotty's Service Station in Forest Ranch where one could sip beer while telling tall tales all afternoon. Then Darlene fed me, sending the rest of the apple pie with me to my destination. Good solid citizens, the backbone of our society!
