JOHN COUTTS John Coutts, 62, of Durham, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 21, 2021. Born Sept. 6, 1958, in Yuba City, to John and Ruth Coutts, he was raised in Chico and graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1976. He earned his B.S. in Business Finance with honors from Chico State University, ultimately becoming a financial advisor, the position he held when he died. During his senior year in college, John became the manager at Holiday Market's Longfellow store in Chico where he met his wife, Colleen, who was the local Armour Dial sales rep. He became a district supervisor for Holiday Markets before making a career move into finance. He and his wife were married 36 years and loved traveling, visiting many countries together. His favorite place was the Austrian Alps, frequently going there to visit his grandparents and other relatives on his maternal side. John loved his 1966 Ford Mustang, which he drove to work daily until his passing. He purchased it when he was 17 and took great pride in keeping it looking like new over the years. John was a devoted man and always made sure his family came first. He was especially proud of his pride and joy, granddaughter Claire, while anxiously awaiting the arrival of his second granddaughter. As an avid sports enthusiast, John loved following his favorite sports teams: San Francisco 49ers, Sacramento Kings, and beloved San Francisco Giants. One of John's many joys was hosting get-togethers with family and friends. John made sure your glass was never empty. The party was not complete until you shook your glass and called out "Final-Final." John was a dependable friend and family man who took great pride in taking care of others. All who knew him will miss him. Survivors include his wife, Colleen, of Durham; parents John and Ruth Coutts, of Chico; son J.J. Coutts of Moorpark, Calif., and son Daniel Coutts, daughter-in-law Mary Coutts and granddaughter Claire Coutts, all of Roseville. He also leaves his beloved rescue dog Shasta. A viewing is scheduled for St. James Church in Durham, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 29. A private Mass will take place Tuesday, March 30, followed by public interment at Glen Oaks Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the Butte Creek Country Club at 12:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the Northwest SPCA, 2787 S. Fifth Ave., Oroville CA 95965. John had a particular fondness for this organization as it was where he rescued Shasta.
