Martha Carriere Obituary

Martha Carriere of Glenn, Calif. died September 4, 2004 at her home. She was 100 years old. Martha Theresa Maisonnave was born October 15, 1903, in Monget, Landes, France. When she was five, her parents, Henri and Pascaline Maisonnave immigrated to Sacramento, Calif. where they owned a French laundry. She attended St. Stephen parochial school in Sacramento. About 1917, the family moved to Willows and Martha graduated from Willows High School in 1921. On November 18, 1922, she married Wilfred Carriere and they lived in Glenn together for 76 years. Martha was very active in her church, St. Monica's Y.L.I., Glenn Garden Club and the American Legion. She loved her family and friends; her generosity and laughing smile will always be remembered. She is survived by son Richard Carriere of Glenn; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Wilfred in 1999; a daughter Mildred Enos in 2001; and a son Herbert in 1998. Rosary will be 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at St. Monica's Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Celebration at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Willows Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 6, 2004 at F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary in Willows, Calif. from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Enloe Hospice, St. Monica's Y.L.I. Scholarship fund or a favorite charity in care of the mortuary.

I'm sorry for your time of loss, I didn't ever meet Mrs. Carriere but I heard so much about her from Russell Stewart he always talked about the friendship that his mother (Eunis Stewart ) had through the years that they lived here, God Bless to all your family.

Hi to all,

I am so sorry for you loss of this very special woman. I know there is nothing I can say that will make the emptiness that you all feel go away.



I am sorry I wasn't able to make it to the funeral. Due to things going on in my own life, I am having to be away from my 1st grade class too often this year. I just didn't feel like I could leave them again.
