Dear Michelle,
I just learned about John today and am so sorry. Not quite sure what this old world will do without his boundless energy, moral compass and sense of humor! You and your family are in my thoughts.

Dear Family of Phil--
I just heard on the news tonight 6/23 and was shocked. I knew Phil when he worked with us in Medical Records at Enloe many years ago. He was a great guy! My thoughts and prayers are with you all--I am sorry I missed the get together yesterday? Sorry I did not hear sooner.
Sincerely, Joan Smith

Phil and I attended St. Veronica's grade school and SSF High School. I always thought of him as kind-hearted for the 8 years in grade school and the 4 years after that. I'll always remember a particular Sunday after Mass, he had just gotten his drivers license (that week I think!), and he offered me a ride home in the family car. He was obviously a bit nervous about driving with a friend in his car and tried to back up with the emergency brake still on. He realized the mistake almost immediately and got the car going and me to my house without further incidents. :) My heart melted for him at the time and my admiration for him grew immensely that day! My condolences to his family and friends.

To the Family: Life is like a mist. Its here today and gone tomorrow. The joyful memories are still here for you to cherish. Continue to stay close and pray for each other to give comfort, along with heartfelt prayers and loving support from friends to give your hearts enough room to cope with your loss. (Psalms 119:32)

I too was a high school chum. High school can be a difficult launch pad for so many young people, but Phil was so kind to each classmate. My condolences to his many loved ones.

Phil shared so much energy and effort to make Paradise and the Ridge a safer place. His Wildfire Ready Racoon book has been read by thousands and more than that his willingness to stand in the heat inside the Wildfire Ready Racoon outfit was remarkable. Phil would breeze into the Fire Safe Council office with kindness and was always ready to talk about new ideas for Fire Safety. The Butte County Fire Safe Council treasures the gifts of volunteer work that Phil Shared - Calli-Jane DeAnda Executive Director,

I graduated from high school with Phil and participated with him on our championship track team. To this day, I can still remember watching Phil running long distance races both on our track team and cross-country team. At the time, myself and several of my track teammates referred to Phil and the older long distance runners as "the suicide guys." We thought they were crazy to run in a mile or longer distance races. Not knowing that some 13 years later I also became addicted to running six miles a day, six days a week, and often laughing to myself if Phil and the other guys could only see me now. Phil's cross-country teammates Jack Preston and Pepi Garcia already paved the way into heaven for Phil, who was a class act to everyone who ever knew him. He will be truly missed and always remembered!

I knew Phil back in his high school days. He is brother-in-law to Richards wife Dianne. Dianne is my sister. He was always fun to be around. We had lots of good times back then, and he has had many more since then. So sorry for this loss to his family and community.

It was an honor to be Phil's colleague on the Planning Commission, where he was a friend to everyone. I loved hearing about his travels, theater adventures, and work on the fire safe council. He always treated the public, staff and his colleagues kindly and with respect. I learned so much from his leadership.
