SHERRI FIZER Sherri Oretta Fizer left us very peacefully on June 10, 2017. She was born in Marysville on April 21, 1954 to Agnes Florence Davis Fizer and Robert Paul Fizer. Sherri was born with congenital glaucoma, but bravely faced diminishing sight throughout her life. She was an artist in clay who felt rather than saw her art. She spent her early life in Pacifica and Klamath. She graduated from Del Norte High School in 1972. She resided in Santa Rosa and then moved to Berkeley to attend the California School for the Blind in Albany to enable her to live more easily in the world. She met Gerran Roberson at the Blind School, her partner until his passing. Living in Berkeley, she attended Vista College (now Berkeley City College) working as a teaching assistant for seniors and students with disabilities. She received her A.A. degree in 1976. She discovered a talent for ceramics in Berkeley. She relocated to Chico after the Loma Prieta earthquake to be closer to family and pursue her work in ceramics. In Chico, Sherri was active in the arts and ceramics communities at Butte College, All Fired Up and the Chico Ceramics Center. She especially loved creating unique clay pieces to gift to friends. Wherever she lived, she created garden pieces to surprise and delight her neighbors. Sherri treasured her Christian faith and created community and family everywhere she lived in that spirit. A group of friends called the "GoGo Girls" traveled to festivals and other fun destinations. Church friends formed the "Lemonade Ladies," best friends to enjoy life and support each other through life's challenges. A long-time member of Neighborhood Church she was active in "Sisters in Christ" and Bible Study. She recently helped to illustrate a sermon by creating a piece of clay art step-by-step during the service to illustrate how inspiration and skill combine to create art. Sherri is survived by her sister Jo Ann Bradley (Chico), nephews Mathew Bradley (Marci) of Illinois, Jonathan Bradley of the Marshall Islands, great niece Samantha Bradley of Indiana, nephew Rob Fizer of Florida and a large extended family of relatives and friends. Her parents and brother Allen Duff Fizer predeceased her. In lieu of flowers, Sherri requested contributions to
a favorite charity or other loving cause. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Neighborhood Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday, June 24 at 2 p.m. Internment with be with the Fizer Family in the Sutter Cemetery in Sutter. Please share your thoughts and memories at
