Vance de Peer Obituary

Vance Van de PEER

A funeral service will be held for Vance William Van de Peer, 67, of Chico, on Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at 3 p.m. at the Brusie Funeral Home. He passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at Enloe Hospital after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 10, 1939, in Berkeley, Calif., and was raised in Red Bluff. Vance graduated from Red Bluff High School in 1957 and from Chico State with a Bachelors degree in 1962.

He was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam for 18 months. He assisted the Chaplain and was in charge of the PX.

In 1997 he married Sandra Jones in Reno, Nev. Vance was president of the Northern California Football Assoc. for 40 years and officiated at Pop Warner, high School and college football games. He enjoyed playing softball and other sports.

His survivors include his wife Sandra of Chico; three children: Kelly of Virginia; Mardee of Washington; Cassandra of Chico; three stepsons: Christopher, Corey and Curt Jones all of Chico; nine grandchildren; in-laws, Irene Land; Shirley and Bob Mernick: George and Judy Raiter; Ada and Bob Allen and Elmarie Barlow; and many, many, nieces and nephews.

Vance was a kind, gentle and generous man. He was good to his family and friends. He was loved and will he missed by everyone that knew him.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday evening, Nov. 16, 2006, at the Brusie Funeral Home.
