WILLIAM "BILL"

MCCORD

William "Bill" McCord, 88, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. He was born in Chicago, Illinois.

Bill moved to California in 1940 to work in the aircraft industry. He served in the infantry during WWII in France, Germany, and Norway. Bill then obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from UCLA and later a degree in Social Welfare from UC-Berkeley.

Bill worked for the California Youth Authority for 32 years. During his career he also worked as a parole agent, supervisor, and administrator. His major contribution in his field was the design and implementation of the Differential Status Project, an evaluation of parole, which showed no difference in the crime rates of paroles under supervision and those without supervision.

He and wife Isabel, moved to Chico, CA in 1992, where Bill was active in #63 Prime Timers and the Chico International Folk Dancers. He carried previous active memberships in the UAW-CIO, the American Veterans Committee, and the Libertarian Party.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Lakeside Pavilion, 2565 California Park Drive, Chico, CA.

In lieu of flowers, Bill requests that donations be made to Planned Parenthood of Chico, in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. View and send condolences online at www.NBCFH.com.

We send our sympathy and love and want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I enjoyed conversing with Bill the few times that I visited with him. He is certainly an intelligent and interesting person. As I am a friend of Susan's he told me how much he loved and cared for her and Daniel.
Sincerely,
Linda & Bill Jones
