WILLIAM FRANKLIN SQUYRES, JR. William Franklin Squyres, Jr, or simply 'Bill' to his many friends and family, passed away peacefully at home in the late night hours of Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 72. Bill was born in Orange, CA in 1945 to William F. and Delouris Squyres where he grew up surrounded and adored by his three sisters, Glenda, Susan and Sallydee. The Squyres' family moved to Paradise, CA in 1947 and eventually put down roots in Chico, CA in 1956. Bill attended Chico High and California State University, Chico where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts. He continued on to achieve a Lifetime Teaching Credential. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, applying his skills in the 2nd Battalion 94th Artillery 1 Corps. Upon his return, he married his love, Kathy, and soon became a Licensed Building Contractor. Above all, Bill was a family man. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed sharing that love with his boys, Brandon and Galen. Bill was loved by so many: He is survived by Kathy, his wife of 50 years, son Brandon and daughter-in-law Michelle, son Galen and daughter-in-law Brittany, sister Susan Squyres-McNally, sister Glenda Block and their respective families, and sister-in-law Wendy Truett. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Delouris and William F. Sr., and sister Sallydee Squyres-MacDonald. A memorial service will be held at Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home on Thursday, July 27th, 2017 at 11:00 AM to be followed by a reception at the Chico Elks Lodge. The Squyres family would especially like to thank to Dr. Randal Sloop of Chico, Dr. Chiong Pan of U.C. Davis Cancer Center, Dr. Dollinger of Chico and Dr. Burke of Chico, for their exceptional care.
