D. Michael Moore
COLUMBUS: David Michael "Mike" Moore - The world lost a special person on October 24, 2015 with the sudden passing of Mike Moore, age 53, of Columbus, Ohio. Mike was born July 24, 1962 in Chillicothe, Ohio. He graduated from Southeastern High School where he played football and ran track and cross country. Mike earned a Bachelor's degree from Ohio University and a Master's degree from Xavier University. Mike worked for many years in the vocational rehabilitation field at Goodwill Industries, the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, and the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission. He spent the latter part of his career at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Ohio Department of Aging where his worked involved budget and data analysis.
Mike loved his work, enjoyed his colleagues, was well respected, and was considered a valuable asset to his employers. Outside of work, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, practiced martial arts, was an avid cyclist, and sports enthusiast. Mike loved music and everything about it. He owned and played several guitars. He studied music history, theory, and composition, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of the music industry, musicians, and works. Mike was intelligent and intellectually curious. He loved books and was an avid reader. With a keen interest in statistics, mathematics, and economics, he studied these subjects for recreation.
Mike was a responsible and hard working person who took good care of his family and his home. He enjoyed the company of close friends and the affection of animals, especially dogs. He leaves behind his partner of many years, Tammy Simon, and their dog Hank, both of whom he loved very much. Also grieving his loss are his brother Jeff Moore, sister-in-law Kathy Moore, brother Greg Moore, sister-in-law Lisa Moore, sister Robin Chethuan, nephew Stephan Chethuan, and niece Kristen Chethuan, all of whom he cared for deeply. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, David (Buck) Moore and Elaine Moore, and his beloved dog Roscoe.
Family will receive guests from 11:00am-1:00pm on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Haller Funeral Home, 1661 Western Avenue, Chillicothe, Ohio. A celebration of Mike's life will directly follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at CM Cemetery in Oak Hill, Ohio at the convenience of the family.
Mike was a warm, caring, and compassionate person. Throughout his life, he was a strong advocate for those less fortunate, and generously supported many philanthropic charities. These included NAMI Franklin County, Maryhaven, Mid-Ohio Foodbank, and Franklin County Dog Shelter. The family suggests memorial donations be made to one of Mike's favorite charities.
