I apologize for the lateness of this entry, but now that I live in Pittsburgh, it is difficult to maintain contact with people I once knew in Columbus. Still, I was deeply saddened to hear of Paul's death. I made his acquaintance when he first came to Columbus, and we developed a friendship that lasted beyond 1995, when I and my family moved to Bridgeport, OH. The last time I talked with him it was about the rebuilding to the Beckerath Organ of St. Paul's Cathedral here in Pittsburgh. Indeed, I must say that I have never met a man who was as knowledgeable about all things organ than Paul. I used to say that what he didn't know about the organ was not thought of yet. Still, despite our mutual interest in organ building, he and I became personal friends who shared our table at my home several times over the years. He also played for my ordination, and followed me as organist for two small Lutheran churches north of Newark. I was hoping we could get together when I was in Columbus, which is not often in recent years. Still, I have my memories of him, the company we kept, and the friendship he offered to me. Rest in peace my friend, and may your days now be the sounds of choirs and organ. (The Rev.) John G. Bateson

Paul was a fine organist who was passionate about music. He loved the Episcopal Church and served it with love. He was generous, kind, smart and funny. May he rest in peace with his savior whom he loved so deeply.

I will miss Paul tremendously! He was a good friend and a master craftsman! He was in the process of preparing to install our new oboe at Centenary in Granville. What a loss to the central Ohio musical community.

I enjoyed "Preacher Training" with Paul and his sermons were inspiring. Paul will be missed. I pray for his family during this time. God Bless
