Frederic Howell Obituary

Frederic Lynn Howell of Bonifay, was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his loving family in his home in Bonifay. He grew up in a large close knit family and had four brothers and five sisters.Freddie honorably served his country by joining the Navy and then attended Florida State University on the GI bill. He graduated with his Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University in 1951 and then returned and received a Master's of Science in June of 1959. He was a lifelong Seminole Fan. He loved his years of teaching high school math, algebra and trigonometry at Holmes County High School. During that time he was also the head basketball coach and assistant football coach. After his retirement he revived The "H" Club in Bonifay for all the current and former athletes of Holmes County High School. They would have a reunion each year during football season and this tradition continues because of him. He loved his students and players and continued to stay in touch with them through the years. He was known for his stories, jokes and never forgetting a face. He continued his career at Chipola College in Marianna, where he started and created the Vocational-Technical School. He dabbled in politics and was elected Mayor of Bonifay two different times. He stood for honesty, integrity and always doing what was right, even if others did not agree. Lastly, his most important job was being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved watching them grow up and was a role model to each of them. He instilled morals, values and the love of Jesus in each of them. He prepared them to succeed in life. He taught them humor and laughter were very important and always reminded them that "this too shall pass". He loved them to the end and he will be greatly missed by all. He was our beloved "Daddy" and "Deda" and words will never be enough to express our admiration and love for such a great man.

Freddie (as everyone knew him) is survived by his wife of 65 years, Celedia Burgess Howell. He had two devoted daughters, Pam Howell McCullough and husband Rickey, and Melinda Howell McDaniel. His grandchildren, Blair Thomas McDaniel and wife, Heyward, Thomas Joel McCullough and wife Michele, and Emma Celedia McCullough were the joy of his life. He also is survived by two great grandchildren, Landon and Logan McCullough, who owned his heart. He is survived by his two remaining sisters Charlotte Howell Cone and Katherine Howell Davis.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alto and Malzie Howell, sisters Ila Davis, Helen Davis, Nell Ruth Locke, brothers, Lamar Howell, Drexel Howell, Shouppe Howell and Myron Howell. He was also preceded in death by his great grandson, Milo Cooper McDaniel.
