Sgt. Dakota J. Volkman, 23, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away suddenly on April 6, 2015, in Anchorage.
Dakota was born on June 29, 1991, in Bloomer, the daughter of Jennifer "Jay" Volkman. Dakota attended primary school in Bethel Alaska and then attended and graduated from Bloomer High School in 2009. Dakota moved back to Alaska to attend The University of Alaska Anchorage, prior to joining the Alaska National Guard where she served with Alpha Company 49th GMD (MP) as a Military Police Officer in Fort Greely, Alaska.
In addition to serving her country, she embraced everything Alaska had to offer - she was saving animals in need, camping, kayaking, hiking, fishing and participating in fun runs. She was a fantastic artist and thoroughly enjoyed spending her time with her family and friends.
She is survived by: her mother, Jennifer Volkman of Bethel; one sister, Santana Volkman of Bethel; grandfather, Gary M. Volkman of Port Angeles Washington; aunts, Jackie (John) Ronnestrand of New Auburn, Jeanne (Danny) Smith of Bethel, Brooke Volkman of Anchorage, Lindsey Volkman of Eau Claire; uncle, Gary B. Volkman of Seattle and many great aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and her beloved dog, Oakley.
She is preceded in death by: her grandmother, Lani (Krenz) Volkman.
A celebration of Life will be held at Bloomer Brewery, 1526 Martin Road, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. All friends and family are welcome.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May, 20, at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Bloomer at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Martin Halom officiating. Visitation will be held a half hour prior to the service at church. Burial with Military Service/Honors will be held at the Bloomer Cemetery following immediately after the service at church. The burial service of her grandmother Lani (Krenz) Volkman will follow immediately after.
