Delia R. Coyle, age 92, of North Hudson, died on Sunday, July 29, 2007, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond.
Delia was born on Sept. 4, 1914, in the town of Weston, Dunn County, to Alvin Edwin and Alma Florence (Holmberg) Lemon. She graduated in 1933 from Menomonie High School and in 1934 from the Dunn County Normal School. On June 5, 1937, she married James Louis Coyle in Hudson.
Delia lived in North Hudson all her married life, where she was blessed with so many wonderful friends who continued to visit her, assist her, bring food, fix her hair, and provide her genuine respect and support throughout her long life. Generations of children in North Hudson knew her as "the cookie lady."
Delia taught Sunday School at Bethel Lutheran Church, served as treasurer of the North Hudson Village Board, was Justice of the Peace in North Hudson, and worked for many of the lawyers in Hudson. She was also a bookkeeper for St. Croix Motors, Erickson's, and later, the Phipps Center, and was a member of the Stillwater Country Club for more than 50 years.
Delia will be remembered in the area for her strong will, for being always ready to help and volunteer, and perhaps, most of all, for overcoming and adapting to the complications of a stroke she suffered at the age of 27, which resulted in the permanent loss of use of her left arm.
Delia is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Alma Lemon; her husband, James Louis Coyle; sister and brother-in-law, Genevieve and Harold Quilling; sister and brothers-in-law, Dorane Debee, William Hathaway, Jochum Debee and Harold Olson; and brother, Melvin Lemon.
