Derek Thompson Obituary

BLOOMER - Derek John Thompson, 32, of Bloomer passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Bloomer.

He was born Sept. 3, 1983, in Bloomer, the son of Gregory Thompson and Dorinda Gesler. Derek grew up and attended Bloomer Schools, graduating with the class of 2002. He attended UW-Barron County for two years and transferred to UWEC, graduating in 2007, with his B.S. in special education.

Derek worked at Barron High School in 2008, until 2011. He began his career at Bloomer High School in the fall of 2011.

Derek married Brittany Loew April 5, 2010, in Rivera Maya, Mexico.

Together they raised their two beautiful children, Griffin (3.5 yrs., who shares the same birth date as his father) and Willow (4.5 months), who was born Dec. 6, 2015.

Derek enjoyed home improvement projects and has been continuously remodeling their family homes since 2008. He also was a big Gary Alan fan, attending many concerts and collecting Gary Alan memorabilia. He had a strong passion for deer hunting and fishing and spent many hours building "The Palace" this past season. Derek played softball, basketball, and recently started refereeing football this past season.

Both Derek and Brittany were members of Christ Lutheran Church in Bloomer since 2014. Derek had a strong passion for his students at school. He always wanted to help them. He was a very loving, devoted father, with great patience for his children and family. Derek was Griffin's superhero.

He had this strength and calmness about him that helped in many situations. He was a dedicated, supportive and devoted husband who showed love in many forms. He was never afraid to cook, clean or do laundry. He had a heart of gold and always reminded Brittany how much he loved her and how he was so proud of her.

Derek is survived by his wife, Brittany; his two children, Griffin and Willow; his parents, Dorinda (Joe) Wynimko of Bloomer, and Gregory (Sue) Thompson of Menomonie; two brothers, Ryan (Mindy) Thompson of Bloomer, and Jay (LaWanda) Thompson of Bloomer; step-sister, Cecilia (Luke) Spannbauer; step-brother, Edward Wynimko; grandparent, Carl Thompson of Bloomer; his father and mother-in-law, Greg (Sandy) Loew of Bloomer; his brother-in-law, Grady (Dana) Loew of Bloomer; four nieces and nephews, Jayzson Thompson, Gage Loew, Darian Thompson and Jayla Thompson; step-nephew and niece, Colin and Evelyn Spannbauer; grandparents-in-law, Garry (Pat) Loew; and by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
