Dolores M. "Dolly" Sprague, 92, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at her residence, Wissota Health and Regional Vent Center in Chippewa Falls.
She was born Oct. 28, 1917, the daughter of Victor and Jessie (Wheeler) Cardinal. She attended St. Charles Elementary School and Chippewa Falls Senior High School, graduating in 1935.
She married William R. Sprague on May 17, 1941, at St. Charles Rectory in Chippewa Falls. Dolly was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church.
Dolores's employment experience was varied and included Woolworth's Dime Store, Three Sisters women's clothing store, Boston men's clothing store, Sam LaRue's dental office and Ace Hardware.
Dolores was an avid knitter and provided her family with sweaters, socks and afghans in intricate patterns. She was a voracious reader of lengthy novels, a competitive Scrabble player and a lover of crossword puzzles. Dolores loved spending time at the casinos and playing bingo wherever she could. She enjoyed dancing with Bill at any local venue that featured Big Band sounds of the '40s and '50s. In their retirement, Dolores and Bill traveled throughout the United States and abroad. Dolores especially enjoyed collecting seashells on the Florida beaches.
Survivors include: two daughters, Dianne (Joe) Frenette of Eau Claire and Mary Jane Sullivan of Waupaca; two sons, Kent (Connie) Sprague and Richard "Dick" (Judy) Sprague, both of Chippewa Falls; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Franciskovich, Kim VanderHeyden, Brian Frenette, Dennis Sullivan, Kelley Udulutch, Sam Sprague, Tony Sprague, Rachel Kerola, Erin Sprague, and Kristine Sprague-Klepzig; and 20 great-grandchildren. Dolores is also survived by: sisters, Patricia Kroll of Eau Claire and Marjorie Haley of Tacoma, Wash.; and brother Jerry (Helen) Cardinal of Gig Harbor, Wash.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, William R. Sprague, on Nov. 27, 2009; her parents; three brothers, Jim, Jack and Dick Cardinal; and two great-grandchildren, Mira and Casey Sprague-Klepzig; and son-in-law Patrick R. Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 14 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. Frank Corradi will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Friends may call from noon until the time of services on Monday, June 14 at St. Charles Church, Chippewa Falls.
