James E. Timmerman, age 83, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Menomonie, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at the Manor Care of Dunedin in Dunedin, Fla.
He was born May 3, 1922, in the town of Weston, Dunn County, to Chester A. and Velma G. (Borm) Timmerman.
Jim graduated from Menomonie High School in 1939 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1948, he graduated from Stout State University and in 1972, he received his master's degree in guidance and counseling, also from Stout.
Jim married the former Victoria Marcheso in 1961 in Berlin, Germany. She preceded him in death in 1990.
Jim was a teacher, coach and guidance counselor in public schools in Sherburn, Minn., Honolulu, Hawaii, Wallace, Idaho, Pasadena and Los Angeles, Calif., Wheaton, Md., Manassas, Va., and Melbourne. He retired from the Department of Defense Dependants School System in 1980 after serving in Okinawa, Bremerhaven, Berlin, Ansbach, Schwaebisch Gmuend and Frankfurt, Germany. He was also with Dodds Schools in Paris, France, Fort Bragg, Fort Beljoir and Manila in the Philippine Islands.
He was also an umpire, referee and official in most sports, including football, flag football, basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, boxing, and track and field. Jim enjoyed an around the world trip, visiting countries such as China, Thailand, Burma, Lebanon, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, and during his 19 years in Europe, he visited all countries, including Russia. His travels took him to many interesting places in different parts of the world.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Don) Rosha of St. Augusta, Minn.; three grandchildren, Darrin, Nathan and Kim Rosha; two sisters, Mary Ann (Jack) Allmann of Federal Way, Wash., and Mildred Beeler of Sugar Land, Texas; a brother-in-law, Jack Marcheso of Melbourne; nieces, nephews and great-nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Victoria; a sister, Doris and her husband, Robert Steies; and another brother-in-law, B. Michael Beeler.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with the Rev. Rosalind Dryver-Scott officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menom-onie with military honors provided by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.
Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion or AmVets in Dunedin.
