NEW AUBURN - Julie Lawry, age 68, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at her home in New Auburn after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born May 20, 1944 in New Auburn to Herbert and Corrine "Orpha" (Cathers) Gravunder. She married her first husband, Larry Hughes, and together they had one son, David. She worked as a homemaker and then took a job in food service, working for New Auburn School District from 1968-1981. She worked at various jobs for the next five years and then accepted a job at Oakhill Correctional in Oregon, Wis., where she was a Food Service Supervisor.
She married her best friend and love of her life, Robert "Beaver" Lawry on Aug. 27, 1994 in Oregon, Wis. She loved traveling, whether it be to Mexico, Las Vegas and most recently to Laughlin, Nev. She especially enjoyed her many trips to New Auburn to spend time with her family and hanging out with friends at the airport. Julie always said her greatest accomplishment was her son and going to work for the Department of Corrections … both were well done.
She is survived by: one son, Dave (Theresa) Hughes of New Auburn; two grandchildren, Damien and Felicity Hughes; Robert's three children, Dennis Lawry of Alabama, Christine (John) Vroman of Cottage Grove, Wis., and Scott Lawry of Evansville Wis.; seven step-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Roxanne Gravunder and Patricia Gravunder; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Herbert and Orpha; her husband, Robert "Beaver" Lawry; and two brothers, Dale and Wade Gravunder.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 16 at 1 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer, with Pastor Wayne North officiating. Friends may call from 5–7 p.m. on Sunday, July 15th, and until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
