NEW AUBURN - Leslie L. "Les" Nelson, 75, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 at Dallas Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Big Bend on Nov. 1, 1941 to Austin and Mary (Silvernail) Nelson. He married his first love, Kathryn Rudoll on Sept. 30, 1961 in Chetek. Les worked as a farmer and was a bus driver for the New Auburn School District for many years. He was a member of the New Auburn United Methodist Church, serving on several committees, an officer in the FFA Alumni for many years and served on the Dovre town board. Les believed that hard work never hurt anybody. He loved being a farmer, taking care of God's land and making lots of friends driving bus. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and loved taking trips with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of New Auburn; children, Timothy (Renea) Nelson of New Auburn, Wendy (boyfriend, Steve) Nelson of Eau Claire; brother, Richard (Jennifer) Nelson of Chetek; stepsister, Lynn (Dennis) Trowbridge of Rockford, Ill.; stepbrother, Lee Nelson of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Mary; stepmother, Nona Nelson; brother and sister-in-law, George and Dona Nelson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, at St. Jude's Church in New Auburn with Pastor Gary Benzschawel of the United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
