Mae Vajgrt Obituary

Mae "Betsy" Vajgrt

August 1, 1936 - September 24, 2025

Mae "Betsy" Vajgrt, 89, of Chippewa Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and friends, at Our House Senior Living in Chippewa Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband, Maynard.

Betsy was born in Union Town, Pennsylvania, on August 1, 1936, to Florence (Grindle) and William Livingston. Raised mostly in Cleveland, Ohio, area, she was the youngest child in a close-knit family with three sisters and two brothers. Her early interest in fashion coupled with her good looks led her to be a makeup model in her teens; is it any wonder why she had a lifelong attraction to all things sparkly?

Betsy married Maynard "Del" Vajgrt on December 30, 1953; they lived in Vermont and returned to the Vajgrt family farm for a bit before moving to St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1962, they settled in Chippewa Falls and raised their children here. She was an avid crossword "puzzler" and we remember fondly how she easily won games of Masterpiece and Trivial Pursuit. Our mom loved to travel and kept meticulous notes of sites visited, miles traveled and expenses! Most summers the entire family traveled "out West" in a panel station wagon, pulling a pop-up camper to visit family in Thermopolis, Wyoming, where they fished, climbed Black Butte and soaked in the hot springs. Later she enjoyed trips with friends or visiting kids who lived outside of Wisconsin. She did shine witnessing her kids and grandkids wedding celebrations held in different states, seeing her family together, meeting others while having a tasty meal and wine. She was most proud of her son, Terry...LOL. Betsy also had a long-standing relationship with the Jehovah Witnesses local congregation where she had established many lifelong friends.

She is survived by her six children; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren: Cathy Lou Verbracken (friend Mike Coffield) of Chippewa Falls, children; Rachel (Jason), Jason (June), Neil (Heather), Nathan (Megan), Nick, Matthew (Trish), Mackenzie, and Maegan. Darrell Lee (Misty) of Chippewa falls, children; Cory, Dustin (Carey), Andrew. Clayton Lyle (Jennifer) of Cloverdale, California, child; Chloe'. Diane Lynn (Robert) Ressemann of Cornell, child Juan (Alisha). Terry Lane (Paula) of Venice, Florida, children Henry and Savannah. Todd Lindsey of Chippewa Falls.

Our mom requested we honor her passing privately and we have been gathering together with some dear friends to do so. Throughout the year, we will travel to connect with extended family, remembering and celebrating the legacy this fine lady has left.

"Cheers Mom – we love you."

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice, especially her nurse Sarah Miller and her personal care provider, Jen, also to the staff of Our House Senior Living for all their love and compassionate care given to Betsy.
