Nancy L. Howes, 57, of Menomonie, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at her home.
She was born Dec. 28, 1956 in Warrensburg, Mo. to Dr. Richard Benes and Josephine (Waugler). She grew up in the Chicagoland area and graduated from Loyola University Chicago with her BSN degree.
Nancy left Chicago in 1989 where she pursued careers in nursing as well as hospitality and retail management. Those who remember Nancy will best recall her for her years of service as the general manager at the Holiday station in Menomonie where she started customer's day with an enthusiastic disposition and a smile. When she was not brightening people's days at Holiday, Nancy enjoyed partaking in a number of hobbies including working in the yard and garden of her home, avidly reading books of all kinds, enjoying fishing and vacationing in northern Wisconsin, and spending time with her loving family.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Al, of Menomonie; children Michael Magnifico of Eagan, Minn. and Alanna Magnifico of Wausau; sister, Pam Benes, of Chicago, Ill.; brothers Paul Benes of Chicago, and David Benes of Florida; stepdaughter and stepson Heidi and Bobby Near of Minneapolis, Minn.; granddaughter Hailey Lynn; and step-granddaughters, Francesca and Annabella Near; as well as several relatives and friends in Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Josephine Benes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at St. Joseph's Parish in Menomonie, with Father Tom Krieg officiating. Family and friends are welcome at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Olson Funeral Home of Menomonie is serving the family.
