Richard J. "Dick" Parent, 83, of 756 Irvine St., Chippewa Falls, formerly of 6817 County K, township of LaFayette, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls.
He was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Forest, Wis. to Margaret (Barriault) and Henry Parent. He farmed on the family farm in St. Croix County and then worked at Swift and Company in Minneapolis, Minn. He served from 1942 until 1946 in the U. S. Army during WW II in the 288th Combat Engineers, serving in the European Theatre.
Dick married Arlene M. Hanson on Jan. 17, 1948, in Sand Creek. They farmed in the Hay River area for eight years, moving to Chippewa Falls in 1955. They moved to the town of Lafayette in 1979 and moved to the Chippewa Manor Retirement Community in October, 2005. Dick was employed installing siding for the Green Company until 1960. From 1960 to 1970, he worked for Barrington Siding. In 1970, Dick became self employed as Parent Siding & Roofing until his retirement in 1984. He was a life member of Eau Claire VFW Post #305.
Survivors include: his wife, Arlene; five daughters, Kathleen Parent of Minneapolis, Sharon (fiancee, Dale Andersen) Zimmerman of Chippewa Falls, Lorena (Chuck) Barlow of Eau Claire, Linda (David) Loschko of Chippewa Falls, Janice (Kevin) Henderson of Cadott; two sons, James (Bonnie) Parent of Chetek, David (Ruth Ann) Parent of Knapp; two sisters, Alice Scholl of St. Paul, Evelyn (Carson) Timblin of Birchwood; four brothers, Norman (Sandra Hintzman) Parent of Boyceville, Leonard Parent of Glenwood City, Mitchell (Alice) Parent of Wichita, Kan., Gasper Parent of Portland, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Vera Parent of Sweet Home, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter in infancy; and four brothers, Albert (Lucille), Andrew, Lawrence and Lorne Parent.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Fr. Robert Hoekstra, Chaplain of the Chippewa Manor Retirement Community officiating. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie, with military rites conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until the time of service Friday at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard's memory may be directed to the Chapel of the Resurrection at the Chippewa Manor Retirement Community.
