BLOOMER - Samuel R. Farlow, 79, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, in Rochester, Minnesota.
He was born Sept. 5, 1937, in Bottineau, N.D., to Samuel and Roberta (Thompson) Farlow. Sam worked as a mechanical design engineer, but he truly loved teaching mechanical design at Rice Lake Technical College. He married Jennifer (Davis) Nelson Oct. 17, 1998, at our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bloomer. Sam enjoyed listening to music, reading (especially World War II novels), cartography and sci-fi movies. He was a member of the Barron County railroad club and fascinated with everything involved with the rail. From model trains to taking trips cross country with Jennifer, he was a train enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer of Bloomer; children, Samuel J. (Joy) Farlow of Boston, Sean K. (Diana) Farlow of Oscoda, Mich., Jared E. (Melissa) Farlow of Green Bay, Michele (Bob) Arbetan of Rice Lake; Jennifers children, Brenda L. (Jan) Rufledt of Bloomer, Jessica J. (Mitch) Baier of Bloomer; sister, Janet (Hal) Liesenfeldt of Sarona, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous sisters and brothers in-law; other relatives and friends
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Samuel and Roberta.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bloomer, with a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at olsonfuneralhomebloomer.com.
