Susan "Sue" Cave
EAU CLAIRE - Susan "Sue" Cave passed away on October 2, 2021, at Azura Memory Care in Eau Claire, WI, after battling mixed dementia. She was born December 18, 1945, in Menomonie, WI, to Harold and Dorothy (Myers) Wahl, and grew up with her six siblings on their family farm outside of Menomonie.
She married Dennis Cave on October 2, 1965, and they had two children: Louie and Tobi. The family lived in Glenwood City for several years while they built their dream home and dairy farm outside of Knapp. When Dennis passed away in 1985, Sue made the tough decision to sell the farm and move to the Wanbaugh brothers' farm to help Dean and Wayne Wanbaugh (twin great-uncles of Dennis). Dean and Wayne eventually sold their farm, and they and Sue bought a house just outside of Menomonie. After Wayne and then Dean passed away, Sue sold the house and moved to Tantara Apartments where she resided until her move to memory care.
Sue worked on the Cave family farm and had other occupations that included building houses in the Twin Cities with her husband; working at 3M, Sanna Dairies, and Big Dot of Happiness; and providing elder in-home care services with Seniors Helping Seniors. She had a deep devotion to Jesus Christ, loved helping others, and having chats and walks with friends. She also enjoyed woodworking, deep fried cheese curds dipped in ranch and paired with a beer, and cheese puffcorn (paired with a beer, of course).
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Dorothy Wahl; her husband, Dennis Cave; her brothers: Charles Wahl and Kevin Wahl; and her long-time friends, Dean and Wayne Wanbaugh. She is survived by her children: Louie Cave and Tobi (Kevin) Hughes; her grandson, Dennis Cave; her sisters: Shirley (Dick) Ducklow, Sheila Williams (Doug), Sandy Turi, and Sylvia (Jerry) Janos; brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Saint Bridget Cemetery in Wilson, WI, on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. In Sue's memory donations may be made to the American Brain Foundation (https://www.americanbrainfoundation.org/) or to your own favorite charity.
The family sincerely thanks Sue's wonderful caregivers from St. Joseph's Hospice and Azura Memory Care. Special thanks to Emily at Azura for sharing her quiet office space and offering Sue her friendship and snacks; Chaplain Mark of St. Joseph's for sharing his love of the Lord and for providing the family with a special evening service before Sue passed; all of the Azura staff for taking such good care of Sue; Nurses Aaron and John, and Social Worker Anna from St. Joseph's for your support to both Sue and the family. Please know your work is appreciated.

It was an honor to serve as Sue's hospice chaplain. I miss her and my visits, but I also firmly believe that this is but a short period of separation. In time we will all reunite in the beauty of eternal life. You are being held in the light at this time.
