Susan Gibbs Obituary

CHARLESTOWN, R.I./Menomonie - Susan (Yost) Gibbs, 71, of Charlestown and formerly Menomonie, passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017.

Born May 17, 1946, in Neenah, Wis., she graduated from Ft. Atkinson high school and later the University of WI-Stout. Her first marriage to Charles Yost, gave her a son, Douglas; and daughter, Angela. She taught for many years at the vocational school in Menomonie. She loved to travel and became a flight attendant in 1989, for Northwest Airlines. She later married Pete Gibbs on the beach in Rhode Island.

Her death during the Christmas season exemplifies her life of giving. Susan adored spending time with family and friends. Whether at home in Rhode Island or vacationing, she enjoyed entertaining visitors and surrounding herself with loved ones. In preparation for visits, and often while visiting others, Susan would use her creative flair for interior design and landscape architecture to transform ordinary spaces into spectacular places. She was not only the idea woman behind the transformations, but also the foreman and crew. Susan had boundless energy for projects and family. There was always room for you at Susan's table or patio.

Besides her loving husband, Pete Gibbs (Rhode Island); she is survived by a daughter, Angela Yost of Chippewa Falls; a son, Roy (Courtney) Gibbs of Hamilton, Mass.; four grandchildren, Alex Munson (Wisonsin), Tyler Munson (Wisconsin), Destiny Kolve (Wisconsin) and Whitaker Gibbs (Massachusetts); a brother, Everal Pelton (California); a sister, Sally Rushlow (Michigan); and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Everal Pelton (Wisconisn); her eldest sister, Marietta Landwehr (Wisconsin); and her son, Douglas Yost (Wisconisn). "Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same." She is gone but remains within every one of us.

A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Grace Episcopal Church in Menomonie. Visitation from 4 to 5 p.m. with the Rev. Jacalyn Broughton officiating.
