Sylvia Gladys (Adams) Faber was born Oct. 15, 1925, to Otto and Alma (Hurtgen) Adams in Cady Township, St. Croix County. She graduated from Spring Valley High School and married Walter Faber on Feb. 22, 1944, and resided on the Faber farm, Wilson, until Sept. 1, 2004, when they moved to Autumn Village, Menomonie. She is survived by her husband, Walter of 61 years; eight children, Judith Faber (Wayne Federspiel) of Madison, Susan Faber of Menomonie, David (Arlene) Faber of Glenwood City, Ronald (Doris) Faber of Colfax, Douglas Faber of Wilson, Robert (Shirley) Faber of Colfax, Laura (Don) Bergelin of Menomonie, and Allan (Tamera) Faber of Wilson; two sisters, Vanita (Marvin-d) Johnson of Hudson and Alice (Orvil-d) Biel of Casa Grande, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren, Angela, Thomas, Justin, Jerrod (fiance Jenny Nelson), Douglas Jr.-"DJ" (Michelle), Katie, Jeremy (Renae LaPointe), Ryan (fiance Jamie Bressler), Emily and Andrea (James Prinsen) Faber, Carrie (Brad) Poehls, Paula (Jon) Price, Nicholas (Sara) and Benjamin (Christie Gibis) Holcomb; 11 grandchildren; and many close relatives and friends.
Sylvia was known for her baking, cooking, candy making, cake decorating, dressmaking and tailoring, barbering, and flower and vegetable growing. There wasn't anything that she couldn't or wouldn't attempt in her kitchen or sewing room. It was truly her domain. Family, church and friends have immensely enjoyed the bounty outpouring from her kitchen and pantry. She will always be remembered for her holiday generosity in the many trays of cookies, candies and lefse prepared for church, family and friends.
Through the years she served faithfully in many positions for the church, ranging from women's circle to treasurer of the Cemetery Board. She was especially active in the many church-sponsored suppers and luncheons and sewing group activities. She worked many years on the Cady Township election board and VFW Women's Auxiliary in Wilson. She was a Cady Lane 4-H leader for 30 years.
Sylvia was a wonderful example to all of us as wife, mother, grandmother, sister, church member and friend. We will all miss here culinary expertise, advice on child rearing, sewing, and her deep appreciation for flowers and gardening. The last four years since her stroke have been difficult emotionally and physically but her faith and quiet acceptance have been an inspiration to all of us. We just wish she had had more time to play!
