Warren Alfred Benson was born to Alfred and Amanda (Anderson) Benson on Jan. 24, 1924 and went to be with his Lord on April 24, 2015, at the age of 91 years and three months.
He was the youngest of six children. He went to Chimney Rock Grade School and graduated from Boyceville High School in 1941. After school, he spent some time driving truck and doing various odd jobs until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. He was very proud to have served during World War II.
He married Phyllis Rasmussen on June 16, 1948. To that union were born six children. After moving to the Twin Cities, he soon met and eventually married Clara Burnette on Dec. 16, 1967. In 2004, on Sept. 18, he married Lana Strand and returned to his hometown of Boyceville, where he died at home from natural causes.
As a young man, he became very proficient at many things. He was a carpenter, upholsterer, welder, tire builder, truck driver - to name just a few. In his later years, he loved to travel, play cards and games.
He thoroughly enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to work with wood and built many toys and boxes for them as well as a number of other friends and family.
He enjoyed the love and fellowship of his church family at the West Akers Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed riding his golf cart around town, over to coffee with the guys, and to an occasional football game.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Amanda; his siblings, Rudolph, Harold, John, Rosella Horky, Kenneth, and Ardis Lausted; and one grandson, Bryan David White.
Warren is survived by his wife, Lana; his children, Warren Jr. (Vicky), Michael (Carla), Paulette (Jay) Rocker, Jackie Splett, Colette (Gerald) Ducklow, and Michelle (Al) Guiterrez; three stepchildren, Michael (Carmen), Harold (Shari), and Barb Emahiser. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He will be sadly missed by us all.
There will be a celebration of Warren's life from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at the Boyceville Community Center. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
