HOWARD HANSEN Howard Hansen, 87, of Penn Yan passed away on June 10, 2025, at Geneva General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Howard was born October 15, 1937, in Benton, N.Y., to Elizabeth T.C. (Petersen) Hansen and Stanley G. Hansen. After graduating Penn Yan Academy in 1955, Howard served his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. During his service he was stationed in Lebanon. After his honorable discharge in 1959, Howard pursued a degree in business management from Fremont University, which he successfully applied to a career spanning more than four decades. He managed high-end restaurants, including Changing Scenes in Rochester, N.Y., showcasing his expertise and dedication to the hospitality industry. In his later years, Howard returned to his roots in Penn Yan, where he worked at Byrne Dairy for over 16 years. His presence became a cherished part of the local community once again. In 2020, Howard embraced his final retirement, dedicating his time to be at home with his beloved wife, Caroll Lee Swarthout Hansen, and caring for their miniature horses, during her final years. Caroll Lee passed away June 11, 2023. Howard is survived by his daughter Kelly Hansen; grandchildren, Jamie Curtiss (Kurry), Joline Curtiss (Brian), Paige Kinsella (Jamie), Phoenix Kinsella (Jon), and nine wonderful great-grandchildren; brother, Terry Hansen; sister, Linda Hansen Linkhorn; and sisters-in-law; Jeanne Wager Hansen and Maryanne Swarthout Townsend; along with several loving nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth T.C. Petersen Hansen and Stanley Hansen, his brother Neal Hansen, wife Carol Swarthout Hansen, son Kevin M. Hansen, and grandson Jacob M. Kinsella. Funeral service will be held at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St. Penn Yan, N.Y., on Thursday June 19, 2025, at 11 a.m. following with the burial at Lakeview Cemetery.
