MICHAEL MOREHOUSE Obituary

MICHAEL COSTELLO MOREHOUSE SR. We often measure life by our date of birth and date of death. Overlooking the dashes that lie in the middle that represent so much. Michael Costello Morehouse Sr. was a son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, born on July 6, 1934, to Elsie and Alton Morehouse. He was a man who never graduated high school but accomplished so much in his 89 years. He proudly served in the Koran war as a medic for both the Navy and Marines. He reported to duty at Great Lakes in 1953 where Jean Doddington was the intake personal, it was love at first sight. They got married three months later and he reported to her for the next 70 years. After his years of services he left the military to continue on his family legacy, for a simple farmers life for over 55 years. During this time he built a beautiful farm, home and family with his wife. Michael was a father and friend to three sons Michael Jr., Jeffrey and Dale. He dedicated his life to his family, friends and community. Michael started a vineyard business that serviced all farmers, with his dedication to the farm life he recieved outstanding farmer of the year. He was the Commander for the Johnson-Costello American Legion, held a position on the board of directors at Soldiers and Sailors hospital, and was school board President for Penn Yan Central School District in the 70's and 80's. Michael was a simple man, who enjoyed a nice cold glass of riesling and an intense card game with family. A true farm boy, who believed a day's work was never done. He was a proud man who did not base his wealth off of money but the memories filled with love and laughter with his family. He always stated that if you have your family you are never truly alone. Most knew him by Michael, but he will forever be remembered as Papa and Huck by all those who will cherish his love in their hearts, until they meet again. ------ Now that is a dash... Michael passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023, surrounded by his family. He is now joined in heaven with his parents and siblings (Dan Morehouse, Alton Jr. Morehouse, Molly Allen and Margaret Morehouse). He will continue watching over his beautiful family including his wife Jean Morehouse, brother Bill (Bertha) Morehouse, sons Michael (Chris), Jeffrey (Michelle) and Dale (Missy); 13 grandchildren: Adam, Megan, Ryan (Molly), Alyssa (Michael), Josh, Eric, Lindsey (Shawn), Alex, Pat (Courtney), Desiree, Melissa, Rafael (Michelle) and Natalie; and finally his 14 great-grandchildren; additionally 24 nieces and nephews, and an entire community of lifelong friends. Mike was a good neighbor and employer. I enjoyed riding my horse through his vineyard. He was generous and kind. What a legacy he left to his friends family and community.

`There´s enough blue in the sky to make a Dutch man britches.´
I never look at a cloudy sky without thinking of Michael´s reaction to not the cloud, but the blue. Like his eyes with those crinkled edges and impish grin. Much love to Jean, Mickey, Jeff & Dale, and all those who cherished this simple farmer as much as us vineyard girls did.

I so loved my uncle Mike. I got to spend a few summers in Bluff Point in the early 60’s. Pretty cool for a city girl. He and aunt Jean got married 3 days before I was born so I was technically at their wedding. Lol. I’ll sure miss you uncle Mike.
