Brent P. Ramey, 51, peacefully passed away with his family surrounding him in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis on March 27, 2023. He was born in Marion on March 29, 1971.
Brent was raised in Gas City and was a 1989 graduate of Mississinewa High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served during Operation Desert Storm and was discharged in 1992. He was most proud of his work on Apache Helicopters and told great stories about his active duty experiences. When he returned home he worked as an electrician and retired from the VA Northern Indiana Health Care Systems in 2021. Brent enjoyed pheasant hunting, Notre Dame football, and wood working. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV to his Michigan property to plan and develop his retirement retreat. During the summer months he loved ATV riding and taking trips with his 4-wheeling buddies who referred to Brent as "mother" because he was always prepared with equipment and gear for any situation in which they might find themselves. Brent had a great sense of humor full of one liners that may or may not have gotten him in some hot water over the years, but yet he still loved to make people laugh. The apple of his eye was his dear Katelyn. Spending time with Kate or "sis" as he called her was the one thing he loved the most. He was a proud dad that coached her from the sidelines while she played sports, when she was little he would make sure her hair was done just right and in her teenage years he would deliver a lecture when he thought she needed to hear one. Being Kate's dad was his proudest achievement.
Brent was a member of the IBEW, a member of the Grant County Rescue and a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his daughter, Katelyn R. (Conner Layman) Ramey, Gas City; mother, Jean (Ron) Wise, Dayton, Ohio; father, Walt (Regina) Ramey, Gas City; partner, Kris Day and her children, Beth Lamb, Matthew Day and Katherine Day, Gas City; brothers, Eric (Susan) Ramey, Connersville; Matthew (Lindsay) Ramey, Amboy; step-brothers, Criss Owens, Jonesboro; Ty Owens, Texas; nephews, Hunter Ramey, Jase Ramey, Colton Ramey and Easton Ramey; his former wife, biggest fan and critic, Amy Ramey, Gas City; former in-laws, Fred and Barbara Bradford, Jonesboro.
Brent is preceded in death by his biological father, Richard Arnold; step-brother, Jeff Owens; maternal grandparents, Lora and Sylvia Futrell; paternal grandparents, Everett and Dorothy Ramey; grandmother-in-law, Norma Bradford.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 from 4pm-8pm in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Gas City Chapel, 200 North 7th Street, Gas City, Indiana. The funeral will be held at 11:30am on Tuesday, April 4, 2023in the funeral home with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating. Brent was a cousin I only had gotten to know from him coming to the restaurant where I worked. We found out we were cousins thru his biological dad . Brent was an amazing person full of love and caring. He was smart & funny & will be missed very much. Rest in Heaven cousin. Never seems to be enough time in life to catch up.
