Marion, Indiana
Carol Sue (Richwine) Owen, 85, Alexandria, died peacefully on August 29, 2024, at Alexandria Care Center after being surrounded by her family for several days. She was born on December 30, 1938, to Ralph and Mary (Stands) Richwine in Wabash, Indiana. She married her husband, David Milburn Owen, and were married for 61 years until the time of his death in 2019.
Carol tended to her home and raised her and David's three children during their early years of marriage, while also caring for children of their friends and neighbors. Later in life, she worked at Taylor University in the Communications office for over 20 years and, in 2004, received the first Employee of the Year Award. Carol was also involved heavily in Helping Hand in Upland for many years.
Carol's impact was immense but unseen because she always pointed attention away from herself while serving others so well. She brought people into her family. She clothed those without clothes through her work at Helping Hand in Upland. She raised up the next generation in the way they ought to go through her work at Taylor University and in how she raised her children, her children's children, and her children's children's children. She was the calm inside of the storms of those nearest to her. She lived out what it meant to follow Jesus on earth each day of her life.
Survivors include her sister, Janice (Austin) Russell of Wabash; children, Michael (Diane) Owen of Marion, Amy Owen (Joe Moore) of Marion, and Jill Owen of Marion; grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Blackmon of Alexandria, Allysn Law of Muncie, Zane Owen of Indianapolis, Ross (Christie) Owen of Columbus, OH, Keaton (Siri) Owen of Lake Oswego, OR, and Connor (Stormie) Owen of Marion; great-grandchildren, Carter Blackmon, Kinlee Blackmon, Ian Moore, Enix Moore, Leighton Boswell, Samuel Owen, Harrison Owen, Silas Owen, Lenora Owen, and Selah Owen; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mary Elizabeth (Stands) Richwine; husband, David Owen; sister, Doris Richwine; and grandson, Alexander Law.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
