Darrel Lee McGriff, age 86, Marion, passed away at 6:22 pm on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Rolling Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in LaFontaine. Born in Plymouth, Indiana, on Monday, January 2, 1939, to Lester and Mary (Garl) McGriff, Darrel lived a life full of love and dedication.
Darrel graduated from Argos High School in 1957 and earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Purdue University. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard and worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Services and Farm Bureau as a crop adjustor.
He cherished family vacations, enjoyed bowling and softball, and was passionate about mission trips to Oklahoma, South Dakota, and many other places. He attended Christland United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty (Peer) McGriff; children, Robert (Kay) McGriff, Pam Dillon, and Paul (Becky) McGriff; and grandchildren, Anna McGriff, Tyler Dillon, Alex Dillon, Owen McGriff, and Cooper McGriff.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Darrel's life will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Irv Behm officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
Memorial contributions may be made payable to Christland United Methodist Church, 721 E. Charles St., Marion, IN 46952 or to Alzheimer's Association (mailed to: Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN 46952).
