David D. Leavitt, age 80 of Huntington, and formerly of Rigdon, died Dec. 31, 2022 at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1942 in Elwood to Harold and Florence (Harper) Leavitt, Sr. David was a 1961 graduate of Swayzee High School. He worked at Firestone Corporation in Noblesville for 15 years retiring in 2009 and later was a truck driver for several years. He married Rosilie J. "Rose" (Turner) on June 7, 2019. Dave was a member of Curtisville Christian Church. Dave loved mowing his yard and taking care of his property in Rigdon where he lived for 16 years.
Dave's family includes his wife, Rose Leavitt of Huntington; 2 sons, Paul (April) Leavitt of Fairmount and Matt (Erica) Leavitt of Tipton; 3 step-children, April (Matt) Teusch of Huntington, Steve (Laura) Overmyer of New York City, and Heather (Chris) Sandlin of Fort Wayne; 2 brothers, Rex Leavitt of Elwood and Max (Pam) Leavitt of Gas City; sisters-in-law, Barb Clemons and Sonja Leavitt; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jim Leavitt, Jack Leavitt, Joyce Carroll, June Leavitt, Harold Leavitt, Jr., Pat Stephan, Bill Clemons, Keith Leavitt, and Mike Leavitt.
A life celebration visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023 at Curtisville Christian Church in Tipton County. Arrangements by Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions are suggested to Curtisville Christian Church. Online condolences: copherfeslermay.com.
