Rev. Edward Ray McFarland, 75, of Richmond, IN, passed away September 5, 2024. He was born February 16, 1949 to the late Rev. Robert L. and Marjorie E. (Guinn) McFarland and was a graduate of Marion High School. Edward married Donna M. Velarde on August 19, 1966. He received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University East and his Doctor of Divinity from Earlham School of Religion and Bethany Seminary. He was a journeyman electrician, IBEW, for over 57 years and a member of the Wayne County Ministerial Association.
Edward was an ordained minister of UPCI for over 40 years and was a hospice chaplain for ASERACARE for 20 years. He was instrumental in founding the Wayne County Jail Chaplaincy program which continues today, he also served in the Reid Hospital Chaplaincy program for over 20 years and was Interim President at the International Bible College, Jerusalem in 2005. Two areas in his chaplaincy which he excelled in were pastoral care to those who were critically ill and conducting funeral services.
Edward was the Pastor of Calvary Church for over 22 years and currently served as Pastor Emeritus as well as teaching the Adult Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be Friday, September 13, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. at Calvary Church, 3600 SR 121, Richmond, Indiana. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, 1606 W. 26th Street, Marion, IN.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Donna M. McFarland; children, Jeanette L. McFarland and Rev. Jose (Jenni) McFarland; grandchildren, Eddie R. McFarland III and Lola J. McFarland; brother, Rev. Robert L. (Beth) McFarland; and sister, Lois M. (Rev. Garry) Truman, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Calvary Church, 3600 SR 121, Richmond, IN 47374.
