James (Jim) Monroe Spahr, 91, passed away on June 25, 2024, in his home. He was born in Dunbar, WV on September 21, 1932, to the late Oliver Monroe Spahr and Kathryn Bourke Spahr. Shortly after his birth, the Spahr family relocated back to Fairmount, Indiana where Jim went to school and made many life-long friends. Jim graduated from Fairmount High School and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On March 17, 1960, he married the love of his life, Vernamae White and enjoyed a 44 year marriage until her death in 2004. For over 30 years Jim worked as a skilled tradesman for General Motors and retired February 1, 1993. Jim was a do-it-yourself guy with the skillset to match and was happiest when he was helping friends with their projects or working on his own. He was an avid beekeeper, fisherman and gardener. He and Vernamae retired to a home on Lake Lochloosa where they quickly made many friends and enjoyed fishing, huge neighborhood Fish Frys and fun. After the passing of Vernamae, Jim was blessed to be introduced to the second love of his life, Dixie Rudy and they married September 21, 2006. Jim and Dixie continued to enjoy life on Lake Lochloosa with its fishing, wildlife and their many friends. Our Uncle Jim had an adamant belief in close family ties that made him an exceptional brother to his many siblings and caring son to his parents. He was interested in the well-being of each and every one of us connected to the Spahr name.
During his lifetime, he was beloved by his many nieces and nephews and will be fondly remembered by them. Each of us is blessed to have had wonderful moments of our very own where he touched our lives. He was a loyal, kind, and generous man to all he met that made him very easy to love.
These photos show how you are in my heart.
Rest in peace, Uncle Jim.

My Uncle Jim was important to my family in so many ways, right from the beginning and till the very end. When he & my dad served in the Navy together, he lived with my mom, dad, & sister and grew very close to all of them. He was also there for me at important times in my life -- both the highs and the lows -- and I especially appreciated his interest in my family and our shared military backgrounds. I'm including a photo from the day my oldest son graduated from the U. S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and I love it because Uncle Jim's hair (in the wind) looks like the 18th tip of the famous USAFA Chapel or perhaps another of Colorado's famous "14-ers"! The other photo is from last September when he and Aunt Dixie graciously hosted my wife, Jennifer, and I for a couple nights at their home.
As always, wishing you Godspeed, Uncle Jim!

I will miss the service for Jim but I'll be with all with my love and prayers. He was a wonderful brother-in-law and it won't be the same without him!

I was a friend of Tami´s. I spent the night at her house often. Jim was kind, quiet and caring. He was a great dad, husband and father in law. Sending prayers and hugs to the family.
