Jean M. Hawkins, 97, passed away on September 4, 2024, at St. Anthony Rehab Center in Lafayette, Indiana. She was born on July 24, 1927, in Carroll County, Indiana, to the late Willard O. and Mary L. (Garrison) Caldwell. She married her loving husband, James R. Hawkins, on October 16, 1948, at Converse Church of Christ.
Jean was a graduate of Converse High School, where she was a cheerleader. She later worked at Delco Electronics in Kokomo and was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Somerset.
She is survived by her daughters, Rita (Mark) Herendeen of Sebring, FL, and Peggy (Kenneth) Jones of Lafayette, IN; grandchildren, Nathan (Amanda) Herendeen, Casey (Joey Herron) Herendeen, Adam Jones, and Dustin Jones; and great-grandchildren, Addi, Avah, and Carson Hyden, Alexis Jones, Olivia Reid, Grace Cunningham; and sister-in-law, Barbara Caldwell.
She was also preceded in death by her husband and her brother, Art Caldwell.
To commemorate the one-year anniversary of Jean's passing and to celebrate her life, there will be a graveside service at Mississinewa Memorial Cemetery in Somerset, Indiana, at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Pastor Bill Sparks will be officiating.
Local arrangements have been entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
