Marcus J. Ferguson, 79, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Marcus was born on April 4, 1944, in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Ruby H. (Gibson) Pate.
Marcus was baptized under the leadership of Reverend Standford Bolden of Calvary M.B. Church. In 1993, he united with Grace M.B. Church under the leadership of Reverend Edward McDowell. He was very instrumental in the building of the new Grace M.B. Church where he was Chairman of the Trustee Board from 1993 until 1997 when the new facility was dedicated. He maintained his membership under the tutelage of Pastor William Gibson until his transition.
He was sincere in whatever he decided to do. He loved people and had a big heart. Marcus was planning a big party and wanted all the family to be there without even thinking that he would be the "Guest of Honor." He loved fishing, sports, gardening, and motorcycle riding. He was employed at General Motors for 40+ years and was a proud member of UAW. Marcus lived and roared like a lion but in the end, he was a meek and humble lamb.
Marcus leaves to cherish his memory, Delois (Eichelberger) Merritt whom he married in August 1986; two sons, Maurice and Marcus Ferguson; two daughters, Viva Brown and Rochelle White Jackson (Johnny); two sisters, Gwen Cook and Katrina Maye; stepchildren, Anthony, Rodney, and James Carothers, Lorraine Robinson, and Delfred (Melaina) Merritt; five grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby H. (Gibson) Pate; daughter, Lolita Blue; and sister, Vernita Williams.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Grace Missionary Baptist Church, 2409 S. Nebraska Street, Marion, Indiana. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend William Gibson officiating.
Burial will follow funeral services in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion (Huntington County), Indiana. Online condolences and memories for the family can be shared at www. ravenchoate.com
