Michael L. "Mike" Gump, age 48, son of Martin and Mary Gump died peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on October 28, 1974, in Marion, Indiana. He met his wife, Robin, while working at Bradner Village Healthcare Center. Robin had to ask him out because he wouldn't. He always said she was the best thing to happen to him. He took her to play pool and to Taco Bell for their first date because, as he said, he didn't want to set the bar too high! They were together for 29 years and were married for 23 of those. They were married on June 10, 2000.
Mike was a graduate of Marion High School and most recently received his journeyman card from the I.B.E.W. Local #873. He previously worked for Bradner Village Healthcare Center, Moorehead Technologies, Digital Communications, and most recently at Huston Electric.
He enjoyed working in the yard, camping, boating, and fishing. He loved I.U. basketball, Notre Dame football, and was a die-hard Cincinnati Bengals fan; but his favorite time was time spent with his granddaughter, "Charlie Beth".
Mike was loved and admired by many. Most would say that God broke the mold with him. He was honest, hard-working, and loyal. Most of all he loved his family.
Left to carry on Mike's love and loyalty are his wife of 23 years, Robin; his children, Kala Simmons, Austin Aughinbaugh, and Madison (Wyatt) Gump; and grandchildren, Darian, Kiara, Aniyah and Pappy's girl, Charlotte Elizabeth. He is also survived by the best sister and brother-in-law ever, Ken (Sherri) Hinshaw and Craig (Casey) Newby; nephews, Jared (Sarah) Burnett, Jason Burnett, Kris Hansford, and Trey and Jay Jones; nieces, Ashleigh Hansford and Kaiyah Jones; sister, Angela Gump; the best friend that will forever be his brother, Jason (Julie) Beemer; his loyal companions, Bently and Luci; and his neighborhood friendly cat, Opie.
His second family, Dr. Rathi Mahendran and the best nurses and staff at the Cancer Center. Special thanks to Dr. Saad Ibrahim, Cancer Services and Stillwater Hospice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Mary Gump and father-in-law, Bergen Cornett.
Mike would like for everyone to stay kind and "Go Bengals, Who Dey!"
