Phyllis Sewell Obituary

Phyllis Sewell, cherished mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, at Rolling Meadows Health and Rehabilitation, leaving behind a legacy of generous giving to all she loved and held dear to her heart.

She was born on October 13, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Richard and Ruth (Smith) Hartsock. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Allen Sewell.

Phyllis walked through life with a quiet strength, rarely complaining or shining a light upon herself. She was a rare individual that truly gave more to others than she ever expected in return. Her life's work was helping and caring for people. Phyllis worked within her community at the school, various financial institutions, where you would always find her smiling face, and finally retiring from the County Auditor's Office. She loved reading, solving puzzles, dinners with friends, her fur babies, and her favorite past time... watching her kids and grandchildren and all their sport and activities. You might say she was their #1 fan. In the last few years of her life as her grandchildren grew, she filled her time working as the receptionist at the Playhouse Studio of Dance where she was often, once again, affectionately referred to as "Grandma".

She will be missed by her children, Anthony (Mellissa) Sewell, Andrea (Edward) Lanham; her grandchildren, Bryce (Shelby) Beall, Kelsey (Caleb) Glessner, Madison Lanham, Dallas Dunklee, and Lucas Wells; her great grandchildren, Ford Beall and Gaines Beall; and her brother, Ralph (Nancy) Hartsock.

A celebration open house in honor of Phyllis will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at Chapel Pike Wesleyan Church, 2171 W. Chapel Pike, Marion, Indiana 46952.

Phyllis' family requests memorial donations be given to either Gilead Ministries, 212 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46952 or Grant County Cancer Services, 305 S. Norton Street, Marion, Indiana 46952. For those who send flowers, they can be delivered to the church on Saturday from 1:00PM to 2:00PM. We met Mrs. Sewell years ago. It was in the 1990's through her son when he operated a taxi service in Marion. Our mother & us lived on the corner of Wharton & River Drives. We were regular customers. We remember Anthony's mother as being a very nice lady. We are truly sorry to hear about her passing. We send our sincere condolences to Anthony & family. Our prayers are with you. May God bless your family with His peace during your time of loss. Emilie & Susan Gilbert, daughters of the Late Janet Gilbert
