Richard "Dick" Middlesworth, age 86, of Sweetser, Indiana, passed away on August 4, 2023. Because he knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior, he was welcomed into eternity by God, his creator.
Dick was born to Clarence "Bill" and Charlotte (Woodmansee) Middlesworth in 1936 in the family home where he spent his childhood and later raised his own family. He married Linda Buis in 1956 and they spent a lifetime together before she proceeded him in death in 2020.
Dick was a graduate of Sweetser High School (1954) and Purdue University (1958). While at Purdue, he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho agricultural fraternity where he formed lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers. Together they navigated life while raising families, meeting at least twice a year to laugh over the same stories, celebrating family milestones, and comforting each other during hard losses.
Dick was a lifelong farmer at heart, raising a variety of animals and row crops before becoming a commodity broker. He spent countless hours driving to his children's and grandchildren's athletic events, driving a boat in circles while teaching others to ski, and watching Oak Hill and Purdue sporting events. He was a member of Converse Church of Christ, serving there as a youth leader and on the deacon and elder boards.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Teri (Jim) Rodibaugh; sons, Mark (Sally) Middlesworth and Toby (Diane) Middlesworth; ten grandchildren, Justin (Rhonda) Rodibaugh, Jeremy (Kassi) Rodibaugh, Amy (Tyler) Hensler, Jenna (Matt) Illingworth, Kyle Rodibaugh, Danielle (Jamie) Schlueter, Matt (Alicia) Middlesworth, Adam (Taylor) Middlesworth, Derek (Courtney) Middlesworth, and Tori (Nate) McNeely; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann (Earl) Dyer; sister-in-law, Sandra Fox; and many other family members and friends.
The family would like to thank everyone who is a part of their lives and who loved Dick and Linda and their offspring so well over the years. Thank you to those at Suite Living who cared for Dick the past two plus years.
On Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Roseburg Event Center, there will be a short visitation beginning at 1:30 pm (Dick never liked long lines and neither do his children!), followed by his celebration of life service led by his grandchildren at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Converse Cemetery.
