Sandra Lazard Obituary

94, of Marion, Indiana, passed away August 23, 2025. She was born on January 8, 1931, Highland Park, Illinois, to the late Irwin Wallis and Esther (Izenstark) Wallis. Suky graduated from Highland Park High School, and attended Sullins Collage in Bristol VA, and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. In 1939, Suky's father was a dentist in the US Army and that afforded the Wallis family an opportunity to move around a lot. A favorite post included San Franscisco during the war. The Wallis family moved back to Highland Park, IL, after the war.

Suky married Jacques "Jack" Lazard II in 1951 after which 4 children followed. Suky was a very social lady; as an adult she was an avid bowler and played bridge competitively. Following the age of 50, Suky became a competitive golfer with 3 'Holes in One' of which she was delighted. She was also passionate about her volunteer work with Marion General Hospital, The Hostess House and The Girl Scouts of Central Indiana.

Private Family Gatherings will be held at later dates for the family members to celebrate Suky.

She is survived by her son, Robert "Bob" Lazard (Peggy); daughter, Katie Lazard Gould (Rob); son, Jon Lazard (Mickey); and daughter-in-law, Lori Lazard. As well there are four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Suky is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; and son, Jacques "Jack" C. Lazard III.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hostess House, 723 W. 4th Street, Marion, IN 46952.

Final arrangements and care are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel. www. shirleybrothers.com.

Suky was a role model for me upon moving to Gas City in 1966. My teaching job was right next to her home in Jonesboro and I had the pleasure of having Katy and Jon in class. We enjoyed Tau Nu and bridge at her lovely home. She was one of a kind....Classy lady!
My sympathies to her family.

Jon & Mickey, Bob & Peggy, Katie & Rob; we are so sorry and devastated to hear of Suky´s passing. We loved her so much; such a very special and loving lady. Suky was such an integral part of our lives. We go back so many years and have so very many wonderful memories and great times spent golfing, partying and dinners with Suky & Jack. We always visited her every summer when we returned to Indiana, but we couldn´t go back this summer. I talked with her on Aug. 5th and she sounded so happy. Thoughts, prayers and hugs are with all of you and your families.

Though there are many, my favorite memory of Suky was bridge club at her house, her maid was away so Suky had made dessert; banana bread. She wasn´t known for her cooking or baking skills so when the recipe said add banana, she laid it, whole, in the mix in the pan and baked it. The finished result looked something like a bread kayak with pointed ends and sunk in the middle ! It really didn´t taste bad! Suky was always lots of fun.
