Shirley Mae Buckler passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at 10:32 in the morning.
Shirley was born to parents Wayne E. Spence and Matilda B. Spence, both of Marion, and both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated in 1954 from Marion High School. On Dec. 17, 1954, she married the love of her life, Joseph P. Buckler. They lived a full life together and had just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
Joseph P. Buckler, husband, survives. Other survivors include sons, David W. (Melissa) Buckler and John E. (Leticia) Buckler and daughter, Virginia B. (Rick) Brown, all three of Marion. Shirley was blessed with eleven grandchildren, Becky Davis, Holly, David, Patrick, Joel, and Jaydon Buckler, Deric and Diane Brown, Jason and Ethan Shrout, and Nevaeh Arnold. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren.
Shirley lived a wonderful life with her husband for 67 years. Shortly after their marriage, they both accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. As a young person she began playing the piano. She used this talent to work in the church her entire life. She also used her musical talent to teach and encourage her children and grandchildren to explore and develop their own musical abilities. Out of her intense passion with music was born The Buckler Family singing group, which traveled to many states across the USA spreading the gospel through song. Shirley loved to raise a vegetable garden every year along with beautiful flowers. Other interests included camping with her family, and in her quiet times, she was always found reading the word of God.
Today there is a hole in the hearts of her family, but, all are rejoicing that she is now and forever with her heavenly Father. Beautiful memories will be forever etched in our hearts and minds. Our heavenly Father will be our healing and comfort in the days ahead.
Arrangements for Shirley have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion. Shirley's services will be private. Burial will take place at Estates of Serenity in Marion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, 5909 South Jay Street, Marion, Indiana 46953. Online memories and condolences may be shared at www. armeshuntfuneralhome.com.
