Shirley Cottrell Obituary

Shirley Orville Cottrell, 91, Amboy, passed away in his home at 11:15 am on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. He was born in Orma, West Virginia, on Monday, December 11, 1933, to William Robert and Tilda Ann (Marks) Cottrell. On February 4, 1955, he married MaryLue Mace and they had five children together and shared almost 40 loving years until her passing. On March 19, 1994, he married Jane Cole, and she survives.

Shirley was a proud graduate of Grantsville High School in West Virginia. He dedicated 30 years of service to GenCorp before retiring. He was a devoted member of The Lord's Fellowship in Peru.

A man of many passions, Shirley enjoyed horse racing, his favorite pastime. He also enjoyed cheering for the Bears, Colts, and Cubs, gardening at home, mushroom hunting, as well as raccoon and deer hunting. He loved singing at church and was deeply committed to his family. Shirley never met a stranger, and his love extended beyond bloodlines--he was a father figure to many, and he cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Cottrell; children, Roger Cottrell, Christy (Mike) Long, Shirley "Pinky" (Michael) Moore, Sandra Buckles, and Robin (LuzMaria) Cottrell; step- children, Mary Adams, Cheryl (Mark) Santee, and Robert (Michelle) Cole; 30 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and only surviving sibling, Effie Mae Wallbrown.

Shirley was preceded in death by his parents, William (Tilda Ann) Cottrell; his first wife, MaryLue Mace; brothers, Clarence, Ernest, Cecil, Guy, and Rex; sisters, Zella Rush, Goldie Rush, Opal Rush, and Luella Yost; grandchildren, Jacob Cottrell and Robert Scott Engle; and great-grandchildren, Samantha Conley and Braxton Ewing.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Shirley's life will begin at 12:00 noon with Pastor Robert Engle officiating. Burial will take place at Plainview Cemetery in Macy, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Lord's Fellowship, 51 Jefferson Ave., Peru, IN 46970.
