Our mother, Shirley Katherine Grubb, passed away on August 13, 2025 in 1019 Bells Place of Wabash. She was the daughter of Merle D. and Geneva (Pitt) Miller and was born October 24, 1929 in Marion General Hospital. A 1947 graduate of Marion High School, Shirley married W. R. "Bud" Grubb on August 15, 1948. Bud preceded her in death on March 19, 1998.
Shirley was a member of the Converse Church of Christ but had attended and served at Mier Church for many years. She worked as an assistant at the Converse Public Library where she relished helping patrons find books and materials. She quipped that had it not been for her library job she might not have read Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace. Some of her favorite movies were: Wuthering Heights, Prince of Tides and Dead Poets Society. In music, Saint-Saens's "The Carnival of the Animals" was one of her favorites and befitting as Shirley and Bud gave good homes to many stray cats. Bud even built a ramp in his workshop for one three-legged kitty so that she could navigate from the floor to her private food and water table.
Shirley enjoyed seeing The Butchart Gardens in British Columbia; relatives in Seattle and Los Angeles, plus trips to Florida, Michigan and other places. She also loved the performances at the Honeywell Center, Marion Civic Theater, IWU Phillippe Performing Arts Center and the Lyric Club.
Shirley is survived by her son, Brad Grubb and daughter, Sherrie Petterson; grandsons, Kurk (Hilary) Petterson, Adam (Mandie) Grubb; granddaughter, Morgan Hemmick; great-grandchildren, Addison, Avery, Ainsley, Eve and Andrew. She was also preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, David Petterson.

So sorry to hear of your mother's death. She was a special lady. She always had time to chat when I would see her at the grocery store in Converse or just around town. She will be missed.
