It is with a heavy heart to announce, on December, 2, 2022, David Eugene Leathead passed away at Hope Hospice, after a long struggling illness. David was born in Gainesville, FL, on September 11, 1976, to David L Leathead and Becky Lee Van Pelt.
David is a Master Electronics Specialist, having graduated from the Withlacoochee Technical College in January 1999. After graduating, he was immediately recruited by the Citrus County School Board where he worked at the Technical Resource Center and maintained his career for a successful 23 years.
David was an avid hunter: he especially enjoyed deer hunting in Michigan with his father, stepfather, son, nephew, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends, at the Leathead Deer Camp, founded in 1955. David enjoyed fishing, wintery snow vacations, camping, cooking, football, and especially spending time with his family. David was loved by all and known for his infectious smile.
David is survived by his loving children, Whittney Downing (Gregory Jr.), Brandon Leathead (Brooke Elsworth), and Nathan Leathead. His grandchildren, Gregory Downing III, Saylor Downing, and Brinleigh Leathead, his father David Leathead (Sharon), mother Becky Van Pelt (Norman Mingle), sister Christina Hastings (Danuel), sister Dana Scott (Ryan) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family.
Funeral Services will be held at Fero Funeral Home located at 5955 N. Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills, FL, on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 5:30 PM.
David Eugene Leathead was much loved and will be greatly missed.

So very sorry. I retired from CCSB and moved away. Was unaware of Dave's passing. I mentored him when he started in IT at the TRC. I called him one of my "boys". Sorry he passed so young.

Dave, we've know each other since LMS & LHS. I have so many good memories of you back in those days, especially all of us riding around in the woods in the Pathfinder or Suburban. I had wondered why you had been missing from Facebook in a while, wondering if it was your diabetes or something else. I am so sorry my old friend, and I am so sorry to your family. Rest easy my friend, you will be missed my many.
