David Houston Persinger, age 67, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013.
He was born Jan. 26, 1946, in Clifton Forge, Va., to Johnny David and Peggy O'Neill (Jeffries) Persinger. He moved to Crystal River, Fla., by way of Wildwood, Fla., 45 years ago from Clifton Forge, Va. He was a man of many talents including businessman, antique dealer, pilot, designer, sailor and shipwright. He rebuilt his own gaff-rigged schooner named the "Dearest" in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Payne; and his stepfather George King. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Louise "Looee" Persinger of Crystal River, Fla.; three sons, David W. Persinger (Joanne) of Franklin, Ga., and Danny A. and Dustin D. Persinger, both of Gainesville, Fla.; his daughter, Sue Ellen Persinger Bruce of Gainesville, Fla.; one brother, Jerry Persinger (Karen) of Mineral, Va.; a sister, Gail Honaker (Les) of Clifton Forge, Va.; and eight grandchildren.
A celebration of life for David will be held at a later date in Covington, Va., in the summer of 2014. Private cremation arrangements are under the care of Strickland Funeral Home with Crematory Crystal River, Fla.
