Dennis "Denny" Eugene Allen Jr. 69, died Monday, April 22, of cardiac arrest.
Denny was a lifelong resident of Citrus County, born to Gene and Dot Allen on June 9, 1954. He attended Crystal River High School where he earned five varsity letters his senior year; starring at quarterback for the football team and as the one-seed for the golf team. Exceptional play in the latter earned him a golf scholarship to Florida State University.
His time at FSU instilled in Denny a lifelong love for the Seminoles. FSU gave him opportunity, something he passed down to the rest of his family shaping the next two generations. It was best expressed every Saturday in the Fall where in person or through group text, he shared his love for and thoughts on the team.
Denny loved golf, playing professionally through the '70s. He was a legend in Central Florida for his length off the tee and short game prowess. After regaining his amateur status he won countless tournaments, including the St Pat's Invitational, was low amateur in Florida Amateur, Rye Grass, Firecracker, and his favorite the Camp.
Denny loved his family most. A kind, patient, and fun husband and father, he led trips to Disney, North Carolina, Colorado, and New England. But he loved nothing more than little trips- fishing on Salt River with his wife of 48 years, Sherry, or putting practice with his boys at Twisted Oaks and Skyview.
Denny worked for 25 years at Florida Power/Progress Energy before he, like many men in the county, were laid off. He spent the next 20 years traveling the United States working for three to 18 months in regions he had never visited. Once his children graduated High School, Sherry accompanied him, and they were a team in each new adventure.
DA, as everyone called him, was a content man, proud of his family and the life he helped make. Above all though, he found his joy in Jesus and shared it with his family and anyone he came across during his work travels. DA gave his life to Christ at 34 years old and loved his church, Seven Rivers Presbyterian, where he was a longtime member.
Hope sprung eternal for DA. And now, so does his soul. He is survived by his wife, Sherry, and children, Jason (Amanda), Shawn (Mary-Margaret), Carolyn Hardy (Garrison), and Andie Golliher; his siblings, Charlie, Christie Waldrop (Steve), and Margie Davis (Jeff); and six grandchildren, Adeline, Elsie, Cecelia, Langston, Andrew, and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Anna.
A memorial service will be held at his church, Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, April 27 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Seven Rivers Christian School.

I´m so sorry for the loss of DA he was a great person and friend. I worked with DA over the years in the Nuclear Business traveling to different sites. One of my most memorable times we were working at Connecticut Yankee power station, and that was at the same time that the Sammy Davis Jr Hartford open golf tournament in Cromwell Connecticut was playing Denny had VIP tickets to get us in anywhere on the course. He had friends that he played with at FSU that were playing in the tournament we had the greatest time and I will never forget that time.He will surely be missed all that had the pleasure to know him and his family.

Denny and I grew up together in school and in church. His mother led children's church and "junior choir" when he and I were 6 and 7, respectively; his dad coached us in little league. We played varsity basketball together, and even though I was a year older and a grade ahead, Denny was the superior player. In fact, Denny was the superior athlete most of the time in every sport he played in high school, which was almost every one. Amazingly, off the field and court, you would have never known it. Denny was faultlessly humble, and he was winsome. Denny was one of those down-home, easy-to-get-along-with guys that you could never get mad at because he never gave you a reason to.
I will miss Denny, even though since I moved away we've had no correspondence. He was way too young to die but not too young to be reassigned by his heavenly Father, an assignment to which I think Denny would bid us all aspire. Good bye, brother . . . until we meet again.

Da was the best, always a smile on his face and kind words to back it up. A great guy to be around, he always made the time to have a pleasant conversation even if he was busy. A fantastic golfer, I remember spending many hours on the course as well as the practice range just marveling at the way he hit the ball he was Top Notch I mean PGA top-notch.
when I was learning the game he always had the time to help anybody that aspired to playing the game.
My prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends we will always miss DA.

I agree with what Wayne said below regarding the ease it was to pick right up where we left off when seeing Denny again. He was always kind and had a wit that would make you laugh out loud. Also appreciated how he included my son in his family. To this day Ryan calls DA, Uncle Denny. Thank You Denny Allen, you will be missed.

I was a classmate of Dennys and he was always so much fun and kind to everyone. I had the privilege of knowing his parents and his family growing up when I lived in Crystal River. Denny helped me so much when my brother Terry was dying with cancer, he was so comforting and helpful.
To Sherry and family just remember how much he loved you and the great memories

I don´t no where to begin I have so many stories. 36 years worth. Denny was a special person and one of my best friends. The greatest thing about Denny was that when we were able to get back together, no matter how long it has been, we would always pick right back up where we left off. Denny had a huge heart and love for his family and friends. I have been so blessed to have been one of his close buddies. I just talked to him last week and we were making plans for our "guy night" when he came back off the road. Stu and I will lift a glass in his honor and he will be with us in spirit. I love you DA and I´m going to miss you tremendously.

This was part of a video that Uncle Den shared with me. It was a video of Tommy Bolt and himself hitting balls back in the mid 90s and Uncle Den had told me this was when he had his best game. Tommy was a dear friend of his and actually had a top 5 finish in the Masters. Uncle Den would tel me stories of caddying for him mater in his career during Senior events. One could say Uncle Dens passion for the game gave me the big myself, and golf has led me to a lot of interesting places, mainly where I caddy at Full Time where they have the first major at every year that same exact place. Later in his life when I was an Assisrsnt Pro at a golf course in Augusta Ga Uncle Den would always come through and hit balls and we would go play a few holes together! Was always a great time and sometimes the ole "snake bite" medicine would make its way out of his golf bag! Uncle Den you will be missed and forever a legend to me and my golf career.

I am so sad at the loss of my friend. Denny always had a smile to share, a good joke, and made everyone around him feel better! He was a great friend and colleague to me ever since we worked together at CR3. We contacted several jobs together after that and always had fun. My thoughts and prayers go to his family.

I met Denny just 3 years ago at the Watts Bar Nuclear SGR project. So full of knowledge in his field, he was so easy to talk with and learn from. Really knew how to cut up too. We laughed everyday, it was a joy to go into work each day.
He always spoke so highly of his wife, kids and grandkids. I can't say enough good things about him. He will be missed greatly.

Denny was not just the average coworker, Denny was one of the most down to earth people you will ever meet. I will never forget the Jerry Clower days. One of his biggest challenges was introducing me to the game of golf.
My prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to his family.
