Edward Bertie Herbert, age 91, of Beverly Hills, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at the Sturgill Hospice House in Brooksville, with the love of family by his side. Born in Barbados on March 24, 1934, to the late Elfreda Herbert and Fitzgerald Sealy, Edward grew up on the island he always held close to his heart.
He later immigrated to Canada where he and Hazel built a beautiful life together after marrying in 1968 and eventually made his way to New York City. In 2007, they settled in Florida, where Edward embraced retirement with the same warmth and energy he brought to every chapter of his life.
Edward found great joy in simple pleasures – tending to his lawn, sharing a laugh, and singing his heart out with the choir at Shepherd of The Hills Episcopal Church in Lecanto. His voice and easy smile could fill a room and lift anyone's spirits. Those who knew Edward will remember his kindness, his quick wit, work ethic and his love for family and friends.
Edward will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 56 years, Hazel (née Belgrave); his children Larry, Jo-Anna (Cindy), Steven (Nadine), Shirley, and Marilyn (Deodat); his fourteen grandchildren (Shane, Dana, Lee-Ann, Malik, Marcus, Austin, James, Sean, Terrell, Tyler, Stephan, Ebony, Sylvester and Micaiah) and his nine great-grandchildren (Bailie, Coen, Leilani, Justin, Jayden, Zemhj, Maka, Jair, and James). He is also survived by his brother Paul (Peggy) and was preceded in death by his brothers Harold and Arthur.
Edward's legacy lives on in the love he gave so freely, the songs he sang, and the laughter he inspired. He will be lovingly remembered, always.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM from the Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Lecanto with The Rev. Canon George Conger officiating.
