Gene Adolph Heldmann, 93, passed April 4, 2025 in the company of his loving daughters, and will be dearly missed by friends and family.
Gene was born in Saint Louis, Missouri to William R. and Theresa Heldmann, attended Mark Twain High School and served honorably in the US Army. A fortuitous Thanksgiving dinner invitation from an army buddy led to a sixty-four-year marriage to his life-long love Joan (nee Lydon). He enjoyed a 36-year career as an engineer at Allied Bendix Aerospace, and was the "favorite boss" of his co-workers.
After raising their family in Maywood, New Jersey, Mr. and Mrs. Heldmann retired to Beverly Hills, Florida, where Gene enjoyed his time with the Tri-County R/C Flying Club of Dunnellon and shared his love of R/C airplanes with local high school students. He took Joan on numerous cruises, frequented Disney World, and kept a meticulous landscape. Gene excelled at bowling, and there wasn't anything he couldn't build, fix or imagine.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Kathleen DellaSala (Joseph) and brother Bob, and is survived by daughters Eileen Heldmann and Maureen Berney (Seth), grandchildren Jason DellaSala, Leah Berney and Kyle Berney.
Friends are welcome to celebrate Gene at 10AM Monday, April 14 at Hooper Funeral Services, Beverly Hills, Florida. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Cedar Creek Assisted Living of Crystal River, Florida, staff and residents of The Vero Assisted Living, Chesapeake Virginia, and Wings Over Virginia Hospice.
